Germany Editorial Review
**** The "Erwin Rommel Command," a paperback offering by author Battistelli, serves as an intriguing introduction to the multifaceted life and military career of the renowned World War II general, Erwin Rommel, popularly known as the "Desert Fox." While the book clocks in at just 63 pages, it manages to pack in a significant amount of information that is both engaging and objective. The author effectively navigates Rommel’s tactical prowess, particularly in the context of desert warfare, illustrating not only his battlefield successes but also the inherent contradictions in his leadership style that sometimes hampered operational effectiveness. A particular highlight of the text is its analysis of Rommel's logistical concerns, which counters the stereotype of him being indifferent to supply issues. This deeper dive into his military reasoning offers readers a comprehensive view of how Rommel operated beyond mere aggressive offensive maneuvers. The book also touches on his relationships with his opponents and concludes with a critical examination of the "Rommel Myth" within the context of postwar Germany, highlighting the complexities of his legacy. Illustratively enriched with photographs and maps, the book manages to maintain a balance between a biographical overview and analytical discussions of military strategy. However, some readers may find the brevity concerning, wishing for a more in-depth exploration of Rommel's life and impact on military history. Overall, this Osprey entry is a suitable addition for readers seeking an informative and succinct introduction to one of the most debated military figures of the Second World War. **Pros and Cons:** **
