Hey What

**** "Hey What" marks a significant evolution for the band Low, taking their sound to a new level that continues to captivate listeners, even those who may have previously overlooked their music. Coming from a fan who initially Considered them overrated, this album is a revelation, showcasing their artistic depth in a way that resonates far beyond the label of "slowcore." Collaborating once again with producer BJ Burton, band members Alan Sparhawk and Mimi Parker have ventured into a more stripped-down, electronic territory while still maintaining their signature harmony-driven roots. The album offers a complex tapestry of sound where delicate melodies intertwine with glitchy, dissonant backdrops, creating a beautiful yet challenging listening experience. Critics note that while the descriptors attached to "Hey What" can be daunting—apocalyptic, cacophonous, and nightmarish—they fail to capture the album's inherent beauty and enigmatic quality. Listeners are advised to experience "Hey What" in its entirety, as its tracks flow seamlessly into one another, inviting a deep, immersive engagement. The standout moments include the ethereal harmonization on "Days Like These" and the poignant climax of "Don’t Walk Away." Each song builds upon the last, creating a gorgeously melodic journey that appears accessible yet thrives on bold experimentation. In the wake of the band's heartbreaking dissolution following the passing of co-founder Mimi Parker, "Hey What" encapsulates the essence of Low's legacy—adventurous, sincere, and beautifully melancholic. It’s a fitting farewell to an innovative group that redefined their sound while crafting intricate soundscapes that continue to resonate deeply with audiences. **
