The ASUS BW-16D1X-U external optical drive is compatible with Windows 10 and can play 3D Blu-ray discs. It is also LibreDrive compatible and has been used to burn CDs, DVDs, and Blu-ray discs. While there have been no issues with using the drive, the design is a bit peculiar, with a hard-to-use on-off switch and disc tray button. The front face plate is one solid color, making the open/close tray button harder to see. There are no issues with riplock, and the drive does not require a custom battery. The drive also supports M-Disk. There is no remote controller, but the mouse can be used to navigate menus. Overall, the ASUS BW-16D1X-U external optical drive offers good performance, but its design quirks make it less convenient to use. It also lacks some features, such as a more distinguishable open/close disc tray button and support for being upward compatible with 4K UHD burning software or discs.
